Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals

REACH, or the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals, is one of the most complex and far-reaching pieces of legislation ever to originate from Brussels. Under REACH, manufacturers, importers and downstream users must ensure that they only manufacture, place on the market or use substances that do not adversely affect human health or the environment.

Pre-registration for REACH began in June 2008 and the process is not scheduled to complete until the end of May 2018, with the registration being split into three phases dependent upon the toxicity of the substances.
