Enfield warehouse blaze to result in extra fire protection?

The issue of fire protection may come to the fore as a result of a warehouse blaze in north London.

A significant part of the single-storey building was destroyed in the inferno at an industrial estate in Jeffreys Road, near Enfield.

Nobody was hurt in the incident and fire fighters were able to successfully tackle the blaze, while nearby residents were urged to remain indoors with their windows closed to make sure no smoke from the fire entered their homes.

A spokesman confirmed the structure has been "severely damaged", but there were no further safety issues.

Tests also showed that no toxic fumes had been released from the site of the fire - and officials had been hard at work trying to dampen down the scene since.

Earlier in the month, Cornwall Fire and Rescue revealed it had set up a new initiative with local organisations to encourage people to consider a fire risk assessment plan to minimise the damage any blazes may cause.
