DSEAR

Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations

Does your company manufacture, process, use or handle solvents, fuels, varnishes, paints or chemicals with the potential to form a flammable/explosive atmosphere or release energy? Is dust created as a result of your manufacturing or processing operations? If so, you are obliged to comply with DSEAR, the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations.

We have the expertise and capability to undertake the necessary work to ensure that the risks from dangerous substances are eliminated or reduced as far as is reasonably practicable. We will undertake a full assessment of all credible release scenarios, determine what is required and then provide the necessary support to ensure that your workforce and your business are fully protected. We are expert in determining the effects of a fire or explosion and assessing the likelihood of an ignition source becoming active and effective.

Specific areas where HFL Risk Services can help include:

  • Use of explosive, reactive, oxidising and flammable substances (solids, liquids and gases)
  • Reactive chemistry and key controls
  • Risk assessment
  • Basis of safety documentation
  • Hazardous area classification
  • Assessment of electrical and non-electrical ignition sources
  • Technical and organisational measures
